Old Loughburians’ Golf Society Spring Meeting – 23 May 2018
The weather was set fair for the OL Golf Society Spring Meeting at Lingdale, right in the heart of the beautiful Charnwood Forest countryside.
The course was firm and running with the rough being pretty fierce for the errant shots. The event was well supported with 16 golfers taking part and 4 additional guests attending the evening meal.
The golf was fairly mixed but there were several notable scores, with two of the best coming in the second group out. Both Tom Barton (OL ’81) and Rich Alexander (OL ’82) stood on the 17th tee with 34 points but both made bogey 4’s on the last to score 35 points with Rich just pipping Tom on a back nine count back. Rich had a very up and down round with 3 no score holes but also 3 net eagle holes! It looked like Rich would be the winner until the last group finished, where Steve Foister (OL ’78) completed a magnificent round with 2 net Eagles and a score of 41 points to win by a comfortable 6 shots! Steve’s score was even more remarkable because he also had 2 no score holes!
A special presentation was made to octogenarian Ken Stevenson (OL ’49) who has consistently, at all OL Golf Society events he has attended over many many years, won the longest journey. (Ken has a drive of over 90 miles to make each event!)
The LGS Headmaster, Duncan Byrne, presented the Spring Trophy to Steve together with a golf shirt and Rich Alexander received a belt for second place.
Thanks to Mrs June Hallam for handing out the scorecards and collecting money on the day.
